PHIL JOEL
Phil Joel, former bass player and vocalist for Newsboys, hasn't missed a beat since stepping down from the band several years ago. When he's not busy leading the widely-acclaimed group, Zealand Worship, Phil works tirelessly on his solo career, and recently released his first self-produced EP, "Better Than I Found It". Despite all that was on Phil's plate, he felt a piece was missing. When the COVID pandemic hit, it forced Phil to reflect on his career and attempt to identify that missing piece: that's when Phil's past caught up with his present.
After Phil left Newsboys, ministry opportunities began to emerge throughout the United States, New Zealand, Australia and even China. He felt drawn to ministry, but wasn’t sure he was the man for the job. Then, a switch flipped for Phil, and he realized, “leading worship is all about leading people’s hearts to a place far beyond a stage or a melody.” In wake of Phil’s new-found clarity of God’s plan for his ministry, he has devoted himself to crafting new and compelling ways to use his talents to share the gospel. Phil’s now excited to share God's message through his music ministry with you during Freedom Weekend.
